Clive’s is a vibrant community of fellow writers, poets, and community activists brought together by the desire for authentic self-expression. His community has been built through workshops, readings, publications, and the non-profit WordSwell.
POETRY SALOON
Has met in Oakland's Temescal District on the second Friday of the month for 25 years, one of the oldest continuous readings in the Bay Area. Potluck at 6:30 pm, reading at 7:30 until 9:30 pm. Bring poems by you and/or your favorite poets to share, or come just to enjoy. (more)
THE POETS HOUSE CRAZY CHILD SCRIBBLER
The Scribbler is a vehicle for poetry and short pieces, both fiction and non-fiction, published by Clive Matson four times a year. The publication is committed to printing a wide variety of energetic writing coming from our youth and from others all the way up to our elders, in all their various styles. (more)
WORDSWELL
Wordswell is a project and a reaching out, but its foundation is the same as Clive's teaching process; he likes to think WordSwell is the house that has grown up around his workshops. It is an upwelling at a significant moment in our lives. It happens often. Any moment of intensity, a moment of grief, of compassion, of love, of fear, of passion, of insight, of happiness, any moment of self-awareness, any “ah-hah!” triggers this upwelling of feeling and words.
