| Clear Lake Workshops Lakeport |
We'll learn about the structure of fiction and, indeed, of most writing by looking at these very short stories. Introduction on Saturday afternoon, spontaneous writing and supportive feedback sessions in the the familiar syngetic style continue all day Sunday with a break for potluck lunch. We join an active Lake County writer's community for this event. Locals are in the relaxing and lovely area around Clearlake, and low cost lodging is available. These events are supported by Poets and Writers, Inc. through a grant it has received from the James Irvine Foundation. Fee: $55 |

| 10-Week Workshops for poetry, prose, plays and nonfiction Tuesday mid-day 11am - 2 pm, Tuesday evenings 7 pm - 10 pm |
Develop your writing project- stories, poems, essays, a play, or a novel. The synergetic setting gives support and comments tailored to improve your writing-"synergetic" means having a similar origin, so the feedback strengthens the primary purpose of your writing and honors your unique, personal style. Bring four or five pages to each class. Join for the first time or treat these as continuations of fall workshops. 10 weeks, and the fee covers one-day workshops during the same period. Fee: $400 for 10 sessions Wednesday evenings 7 pm - 10 pm |
Novels and Ongoing |
Bring ten pages of your work in progress, receive close attention for forty minutes from several novelists who are quite accomplished and who have been there. It's usual to grapple with a novel for a few months or years before you get it right. Fee: $400 for 5 sessions |

Crazy Child |
In these Saturday workshops we persuade the editorial and writerly voices to take a break and give our creative unconscious - our "Crazy Child" - free reign. We listen into our bodies and write as wildly, passionately, or illogically as we like. When you share your writing, you learn from the positive feedback what you do well naturally - you discover your native images and stories. This, technically, is proprioceptive writing - dealing with the powerful, raw material in our nervous systems. At the end of the session you receive suggestions on how best to improve your writing , and how best to continue your interest. Fee: $80 |
Exploring Your Creative Writing Potential March 11 to May 20 |
Talks and exercises in class on the basics of creative writing as presented in Let the Crazy Child Write! We’ll looks at essays, poems, stories, and plays. Work by students will be examined in a clear and friendly atmosphere. You are no doubt doing at least one or two things well, and our goal is to give you confidence in, and to expand on, your natural abilities. Perfect for beginners. Useful also for writers who want to refresh and hone their skills. |
